Creative Backgrounds with fun tools! In this case, Belinda used Bubble Wrap, Chevron Stencil, Gesso and Glitter!

(to see more photos and additional information, please click here)

Close Up of the background behind other elements of the LO.

To create the background paper Belinda used bubble wrap, gesso, and a chevron stencil. She stamped the white cardstock with green paint using the bubble wrap as a stamp.  She stamp randomly around the page and let the paint dry.  Once the paint was dry Belinda laid the stencil on top of the page and covered the stencil using gesso. Remove the stencil and while the gesso was still wet she lightly dusted with Sparkling Snow glitter.  This really made a pretty background.

Last Close Up of the finished look.

Embossing Powders &  Stencils by April Williams

Supplies needed:

  1. white or cream card stock
  2. stencils brass or plastic -- I used plastic
  3. ink sprays
  4. Versa Mark ink pad
  5. sponge
  6. glittery embossing powders
  7. water spritzer
  8. paper towel
  9. embossing buddy
  10. heat tool

Spray your card stock with several colors.

Spritz some water over the colors to blend a little more.

Blot card stock with a paper towel, lay a stencil over the card stock and spray a color over the stencil. I used a white pearl on this one to give a subtle look.

Continue to lay stencils over the card stock and spray different colors, some dark and some light.

Now use the embossing buddy to swipe over the card stock. this will  keep the embossing powder from sticking where you do not want it!

Now lay a stencil over your background and sponge Versa Mark ink over the openings of the stencil.

Add embossing powder and heat with a heat tool.

Keep doing this as much or as little as you want. Now you have a neat and shimmery background.

Here are some others I made. I chose the last one to use on my card above.

Sparkle n Sprinkle supplies used:

  1. Cerulean Star embossing powder EP433
  2. Glisten embossing powder EP135
  3. Jasmine stamp 1677-330K

  Stencils with Sparkle

Materials

  • Brass stencils
  • Sticker paper
  • Glitter
  • Wax paper or anti static bag
  • Tiny Spoons

Directions:

  1. Rub wax paper or anti- static bag to back of stencil. This is to help the sticker paper come off the stencil.
  2. Cut sticker paper so it leaves a border around the stencil of approximately 1/4 inch on all sides.
  3. Remove backing of sticker paper and apply stencil to sticker paper.
  4. "Color" the stencil using glitter! It's best to start from the outside first and then go towards the center. Our tiny spoons make this project much easier Sprinkle glitter on the border and then if you like, slowly rub a little bit with your finger onto the design of the stencil. This will create a very smooth blending effect with your colors. It's best to do one side at a time carefully brushing off excess glitter so it doesn't end up on the whole stencil. See example by Christy Gorrow of the fish stencil.
  5. If you are going to use a semi- transparent or nearly transparent glitter, you'll want to use that color first to avoid contamination. See the example of the Flamingo using Neon Flamingo glitter.
  6. When you have filled in all open spaces of the stencil with glitter you will remove the sticker paper from the stencil. DO NOT pull the stencil off the sticker paper....it will bend the stencil....pull the sticker paper off the stencil.
  7. Now cover the remaining sticker paper, which the stencil was on, with glitter.
  8. Attach to card and embellish!
