General Techniques

Mosaic Backgrounds by April Williams

What a great way of using those little "left over" rubber pieces from unmounted stamps, and using an assortment of embossing powders! Try this technique with one EP color, or by spooning several colors for a blended look. Read on to discover more!

Supplies:

  1. white cardstock
  2. clear embossing powder
  3. small pieces of rubber
  4. mounting block
  5. heat gun
  6. blue and green ink pad
  7. sponges
  8. paper towel
  9. Versa Mark ink pad

Instructions:

Cut small pieces of rubber in rectangles. I used rubber left from trimming unmounted stamps. I used double sided tape to adhere the pieces to a mounting block.

Use Versa Mark ink and ink up the rubber pieces and stamp on white cardstock.  Sprinkle on clear embossing powder and heat with a heat gun.

Now sponge on the blue and green inks covering the whole card. Then wipe off the excess with a paper towel.

I used an oval die cut to cut out the background and added my images. This makes an easy background and makes a card pop!  Have fun trying it!  Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope to see you again next Tuesday!

Mosaic Tiles

Supplies Needed:

  • Sticker Paper
  • Dark color cardstock
  • Nestibilities, Sizzix, or Punches
  • Pattern Paper
  • Embossing Powder
  • Heat Gun

Directions:

1.  Cut your sticker paper to desired size.

2.  Cut shape out of dark cardstock with Nestibilities, Sizzix, or Punch.  Crack and Peel the sticker paper and place the shapes on sticky side of sticker paper.

3.  Cut 1/2" strips of pattern paper and then cut into small odd shape pieces.

4.  Start laying the pattern paper pieces down on sticker paper around the main image, then work out until the entire piece of sticker paper is cover.  Make sure to leave space between mosaic tiles for the embossing powder.  Place the patterned pieces off the cardstock to make sure the edges are all covered.

5.  Sprinkle entire sticker paper with embossing powder and tap off excess.  Heat with heat gun.
