General Techniques

by Julie Zippel

1. Cut cardstock (cs) for the pot 9” x 3 ½”.  Make scores in the 9” length at 2” & 5 ½”.  Fold the 2” score so the flap comes toward you & the 5 ½” score so the flap goes away from you.  Viewed from the side, it looks similar to the letter Z.

2. Holding only the front & back of the flower pot together (not the 2” rim section), line up your 2” Score mark with the cutting line on a paper cutter & the 5 ½” score with the ½” mark on the paper cutter.  Carefully cut through the two layers to form the angled edge of the pot.  Flip the paper over & do the same for the other side of the pot.

3. Cut the 2” section (the pot rim) with decorative scissors or border punch.

4. Hold the rim section to the main pot with 3D dots.

5. Cut a 2 ½” x 4 ½” piece out of the same cs & also a 2 ¼” x 4 ¼” from white cs.  Adhere the two layers together using Tear-ific Tape to make the message piece that will also hold the flowers.

6. Slide this piece into the pot & center so that it doesn’t show on either side of the pot bottom.  Holding this piece to the back of the pot, open the front of the pot & place tape on the back section of the pot on either side of the message piece going just partway down the sides of the pot.  Carefully close the front of the pot so this tape seals the front of the card to the back & creates a “pocket” for the message piece to slide into.

7. Stamp Floral Daisy flowers on cardstock, color with markers, pencils, inks, watercolors, glitter or EP. Cut, punch, or die cutflowers.  Attach a decoration w/ glue dots to the center of each flower.

8. With the message piece in the pot, begin attaching flowers & leaves to the pot using 3D dots for the lowest layer so they stick up above the rim of the pot. Use 3D dots or Tear-ific Tape to attach other layers as desired. (Note: you may want to have your envelope on hand while you do this step so you can make sure your flowers & leaves won’t stick out farther than the envelopes dimensions)
