Instructions for making LACE BACKGROUNDS

This technique looks great with our Velvet Glitters and Ultrafine Glitters.

Materials needed:

  • 8 inches of lace or less. Can be purchased at a fabric store or, search it out at rummage sales or look for remnants at chain stores, etc.
  • Sticker Paper
  • 2 coordinating but distinctive colors of glitter and/or embossing powder.
  • Scrap paper

Instructions:

  1. Cut the sticker paper slightly larger than you want it; it can be trimmed appropriately later. A full sheet can also be used and cut into smaller pieces.
  2. Peel off the protective paper from the sheet and with the adhesive side facing you, carefully lay the piece of lace on it. Make sure the lace is smooth and press it down firmly on the sticky surface. You should have a piece of scrap paper underneath your adhesive sheet.
  3. You may want to run a rubber or acrylic brayer over the lace to make sure it is completely adhered to the adhesive. It is best to first lay a piece of scrap paper over the lace and then roll the brayer.
  4. Liberally pour one of your glitters over the lace; make sure the glitter covers the entire piece of lace. You can press it down with your fingers and-or cover it with the sheet of paper and run the brayer over it so you know the glitter has adhered.
  5. Remove the excess glitter and return to bottle.
  6. Carefully peel off the lace. Pour the second color of glitter over the entire top of the sheet. Use your fingers to spread it evenly over the surface and again, using a brayer and a piece of paper or your hand make sure the glitter is stuck. Tap off the excess glitter. You have just created a background to use for layering on a card; trim it to your desired size and attach it to your card or other project.
