Froggy Pop-Out Card by Marie Berquist

With our recent Fantastic Folds Blog Hop I spent some time trying some new folds and refreshing some old folds.  I would like to share an older “pop out” fold that my sister taught me several years ago.  It is perfect for the new Just Froggy stamp set.

To create this pop out you start with a piece of cardstock slightly smaller than you card size and fold in half.  Then you make a cut about 1” – 1½” long on the folded side.  Where along the side and how long you make the cut is determined by where you want it to pop out and how big you want the mouth.

Take both sides of the cut and fold them back so the cut edge runs parallel to the side of the card.  Flip the card over and fold them to the other side, also, so they are more flexible.

Now you want to unfold them, slightly open up the card and push each triangular section to the inside of the card.

Close the card up and run a bone folder over the folds to create a sharp crease.  Make a small ¼”– ½” cut on the top fold through both layers, about 1/3 of the way down to create the eyes.

Once again, fold back both sides so the cut edge runs parallel to the fold you cut.

Do this on both sides.

Slightly open the card and push each triangular section to the inside of the card, just like you did to the “mouth”.

Here is the inside view.

Adhere this insert to the inside of your card base and decorate as you desire.

Here is the card I made.  I added spots to my green cardstock with a bottle of white distress stain and added some die cuts and a lovely doodle border of glitter, using a glue pen.

On my card I decided to add the sentiment by die cutting it with a label die and popping it up with dimensionals to the inside of the card.  An option is to stamp you sentiment in the center of the card base so it is revealed in the frog mouth when you open the card.

I hope you enjoy this fold as much as I do.  Here are some upcoming events that you won’t want miss –
