Folded Corners to Frame Your Images - Style One

by Debi Brile

(for more ideas, please see Folded Corners Style Two)

Folded corners give dimension to your card and call attention to the image or sentiment they frame.

This tutorial will show you how to make this type of folded corners:

1.   Start with a square piece of paper.  The size of the square will determine the size of your finished frame.  A 4 inch square will give you a finished frame of the same size with the corners touching.  Using a bone folder to make crisp folds is recommended.

2.  Fold square in half.

3.  Open and fold the top 2 corners in to match the center fold line.

4.  Lie flat with the folded corners facing down and point toward you.  Fold back along the bottom of the 2 corners you just folded in (You are actually just folding the paper in half.).  The point of the triangle will touch the original middle fold line at the top of the square.

5.  Unfold and fold back again.  This time the tip of the triangle should touch the center fold line.

6.  Unfold just the tip of the triangle at the last fold made.  Turn paper over.  Taking the inside corners of the 2 large triangles, fold each back until the corner touches the edge of the triangle and the straight edge is even with the fold line from step 5.

7.  Fold the tip of the triangle into the center fold line.

8.  Fold the flat side back under the folded side to complete the first corner of your frame.

9.  Make 4 for square frame.

10.  Assemble by placing 2 squares so the longer flat sides touch.  Then do the same with the other 2 sides on top of the first but in the opposite direction.  Secure.

11. Your image or sentiment can then be placed inside the frame.

Note:  Make 6 squares for a rectangle frame.  Simply assemble with 4 squares on the bottom and 2 on each end in the opposite direction.
