DRY EMBOSSING ON VELVET GLITTER

by Marie Berquist

Glitter really adds to a card.  With the new velvet glitters you can use dry embossing to enhance it even more.  This technique can be used with glitter on Sticker paper, "Tear-ific Tape", or Super Adhesive Sheets.  The thickness of your adhesive does affect the depth of the embossing and how much detail shows up.

1.  First you need to determine the size and shape of your adhesive.  Then you want to add your glitter.

In this example the sticker paper was die cut and then covered with glitter.

This is an example of a piece of sticker paper prepared for a complete background.

Sometimes you want a variety of color in you embossed image.  This can be achieved by adding small amounts of different colored glitter, one color at a time.  This used Goldenrod, Luau Green, and Frosted Carmine Velvet glitter.  The end result is a lovely piece that is ready to be used as a background or to be die cut.

You can also use alcohol inks to color the glitter to create some lovely coloring (see ALCOHOL INKS ON VELVET GITTER) .  This was created on a piece of super adhesive sheet.

2.  Once you have created your glittery piece, it is simple to emboss.

Our lovely Luau Green Velvet Glitter piece is run though the LifeStyle Diamonds and Dots embossing folder and used in this card.

The multi colored piece was die cut and embossed with a Spellbinder die to create beautiful fall leaves that were added to a tag.

The Frosted Carmine velvet glittered rectangle, also embossed with an embossing folder, made a lovely background on this oriental card.  The scalloped border was also embossed before being added to the card.

This last sample shows a glittered and embossed piece of "Tear-ific Tape" on cardstock.

Tip:  Sometimes in the process of being embossed, some of the adhesive will come through.  If you feel a little stickiness or some of the glitter sticks to your embossing folder, simply lightly add a little more glitter.  Also, buffing the glitter with your finger before embossing really helps bring out the shimmer without removing any detail of the raised embossing.
