“The Not So Macho Masculine Card” blog hop

by Donna Ellis on May 11, 2011

You’re here! Oh Boy! Now we can start.

The Sparkle Team welcomes you to “The Not So Macho Masculine Card Blog Hop” where we are jazzed about sharing some ideas for the men in your life using stamps which may already be in your stash! These special men come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, just like our stamps shown below :-)

Thirteen designers have come up with some surprising, interesting, creative, awe-inspiring cards!

Important things first: The Grand Prize is a stamp set of the winner’s choice AND as you visit each designer’s blog, she will not only tell you about her cards, but donate a product toward the grand prize! Some of the products are brand new – not even on the website yet! So the Grand Prize will consist of the stamp set PLUS 13 products! A lucky second winner will win a stamp set of her choice!

We hope you will enjoy viewing our cards as much as we did in creating them. To become eligible to win the prizes, please leave a comment on each blog. Leaving a heart felt comment inspires, motivates, and brings happiness to each designer! From the last blog, you will be asked to come back here and leave a brief comment about which design(s) you most enjoyed and why.

HOW TO LEAVE A COMMENT: Are you new to blog hops? To find the comments section on each designer’s blog, scroll down to the bottom of that day’s post. The word COMMENTS possibly will be very tiny. Click on the tiny word COMMENTS. A box will pop up (or you may have to scroll down again). Write your comment (sign your name if leaving an anonymous comment). Perhaps one of those wonky SPAM preventer options will show up. Just type in the shown characters and click enter. That’s all there is to it. You will become an old hand in no time at all. Designers covet sincere comments left on their blogs. They share their artwork, hoping to inspire others. Visitors who leave comments, in turn, encourage and inspire the designers. (If you absolutely cannot leave a comment for some reason, please e-mail SNS_Artist@tampabay.rr.com with your comment AND the name of the blog or designer you are commenting about).

Your hostesses are:

Shona Erlenborn

Eleanor Jenkins

Patti White (e-mail your comment)

Sandy Meier

Julie Zippel

Erika Taylor

Linda Loew

Judy Rozema

Joan Petty

Donna Maligno

Barbara Bruder

Hoppers may leave comments until 11AM Saturday May 21. The Names of the Winners will be pulled out of our prize basket and announced on the SNS blog on Saturday, May 21 between 11AM and 3PM.

One other tidbit – all our masculine theme stamps are on special this month to help you build your collection of sports, vehicles and other masculine style stamps.

I honestly don’t have a favorite, but must say that dirt build up at the batter’s mound on Eleanor’s card totally cracked me up! How nice seeing the fun and artful array of techniques using embossing powders, flockings, and glitter — on masculine cards!

Gina Patt May 12, 2011 at 8:01 am

My favorite blogs were Barbara Bruder and Shona Erlenborn. Thank you so much for the great ideas.

Joan Petty May 12, 2011 at 11:02 am

Great cards from all the designers but I must say I find Julie Warners cards are magnificent with the beautiful colouring.
Well done everyone.
Special thanks to Margaret for producing such fantastic stamp images to work with, and to Donna for c0-ordinating a superb blog hop

This is NOT an easy thing to do you know….but if I have to chose ONE card and design it would be Julie’s stained glass. It is a personal favorite of mine that speaks to my heart…my two favorite things are the ocean and stained glass and she has done an amazing job on this card. I have been so inspired by this blog hop and ALL of your designers did an amazing job. I KNOW after this hop around the block that I am going to have to do some shopping and pick up some of those fantastic stamp sets !! Thanks for a fantastic hop.

What a great hop idea! I enjoyed admiring all of these wonderful ladies work! My favorites were Linda Lows “King For A Day” and Art and Soul’s Creations “Oldies but Goodies” I think I left a comment for all but couldn’t figure out how to email Patti. Thanks for the hop.

I loved the masculine hop and got lots of ideas to implement into my cardmaking for the men in my life. As to a favorite…they were all awesome and that is a toughie to choose. But I did like the uses of the old cars a lot. Thanks so much.

I so enjoyed viewing all of the cards on the hop … some very talented contributors and fabulous techniques I have not seen before! Thanks for hosting — my favs were Joan Petty and Julie Warner — their cards and writing took me visually to a needed respite from my workday!

WOW! There is no way to pick a favorite out of all of these, but I made lots of notes as I was doing the hop and will be going back to check out again several of the techniques I want to try. Loved the “dirt” on Eleanor’s baseball batter card, and the stained glass sailboats done by Julie and Donna were incredible! I have to try Jill’s heat embossing technique done with an embossing folder. All the classic car images gave me new ideas and, since I have those sets, you can bet that I’ll be using some of them on Father’s Day cards. Barb’s woven ribbon technique and Donna’s use of mirrored red CS just blew me away! LOVED Linda’s “Winning” frog – LOL. Too many others to even try to mention – this comment would take hours to read! Thanks hugely to all of the design team for the fabulous inspiration!

One card was most definitely just as good as the previous one. all your artists are simply terrific at what they do.
It is a touch choice, but since you are forcing me to make a decision I must say Julie Warners’ cards were so totally phenomenal!!
the card – TRAVEL – is a card of poetry – the perfect love song – everything blends in so well together to become on great work of art!! It is flawless!!
However – the card – YOU’RE A CLASSIC — speaks for itself. 3D – the colors, the framing, the detail in everything that was done. another flawless creation!!!
How can I choose between these two? I cannot. and that is why I have chosen Julie today. Because both of these cards are # 1 in my book.

jennifer May 12, 2011 at 3:26 pm

great hop, loved all the cards! my favorite images would be the vintage car (especially the ones that were so vibrantly colored) and the sailboat – that glitter tech was wonderful.

Carol Drumwright May 12, 2011 at 4:02 pm

What a wonderful hop! It’s not always easy coming up with masculine designs – now I have all kinds of wonderful ideas and inspirations to try! It’s so hard to pick only one favorite from all the wonderful creations, but some of my favorite techniques/products include mirrored cardstock; “stained glass” glitter techniques, textured backgrounds using embossing and diecuts; and much, much more. Truly outstanding creations ladies! Thanks so much for sharing your art!

Shona May 12, 2011 at 9:49 pm

Wow, how much fun was that? And now that I can actually leave a comment I will! Loved window shopping today girls. You all did SNS proud today. Got many great new ideas. Can’t claim a favorite, but will go back and say something individually when Blogger starts behaving!

Dee in N.H. May 13, 2011 at 6:54 pm

What a great hop! I can’t really pick a favorite from all of these gorgeous cards! Each and every one was special in it’s own way!
I can’t wait to see you in Springfield in a couple weeks so I can stock up again! Hope I can get the old car set too!

carrie May 14, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Great masculine card ideas! Unfortunately, there were four blogs that did not show these cards at this time. Guess it has something to do with the blog problem, so I will have to check back tomorrow. It is very difficult to pick a favorite, but I really did like Dona’s sailboat and music card, but Julie’s car cards were also outstanding. Can I have four number one cards?

Kathy Vogel May 17, 2011 at 6:18 pm

The cards were all so incredibly gorgeous. I loved all the techniques. There are a number of stamp sets that I’m going to be adding to my collection.

Chris Dindy May 17, 2011 at 7:21 pm

You can’t seriously expect me to pick just one favorite, can you? I tried and tried. I went through the hop twice. But, I am torn! Donna Maligno’s stunning sailboat has me wishing that I liked a guy enough to send him a card so awesome. And Julie Warner’s use of those bold amazing colors has me drooling on my keyboard. Sorry . Picking one fave is just not gonna happen!
Thanks to all for the inspiration.

Joy Hadden May 17, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Wow! Some very talented artists and I got some great inspiration — now I need those stamps!

~Cynthia~ May 17, 2011 at 10:35 pm

What great ideas, ladies. Very difficult to make a selection. However, I’ll have to vote for Linda Lowe’s You’re a Classic with the Fleur de Lis. Very masculine and elegant all at the same time, nice job!

Laurence May 17, 2011 at 11:03 pm

It would be impossible for me to choose one of you, ladies. You are all talented artists and each cards has it own plus. You used a mixture of technique, and materials, and of course, those were beautiful stamps. The versatility of what you can accomplish with the same stamps! Thank you for your inspiration…

Pat Phipps May 18, 2011 at 12:00 am

Enjoyed all the cards but my favorites were Donna Maligno’s cards, they were great. I also liked Jill Warner’s cards.

Lisa May 18, 2011 at 12:27 am

Really enjoyed this hop. Lots of great ideas for the guys in our lives as well as some great techniques in general. Thanks to all the artists. Got some great inspiration for those challenging (for me) masculine cards!

Diana Slaughter May 18, 2011 at 1:50 am

ALL the designers did such a fantastic job. And all the ideas are great. My fav is Julie Warner’s for her beautiful coloring. Just so realistic.

Frann May 18, 2011 at 3:18 am

So many new ideas, so many new techniques, so many clever uses of the stamps, glitters, and EPs, so many inspiring cards! It’s most difficult to choose a favorite but if I must, it would be the stained glass sailboats. They are both simply beautiful!
I liked the simplicity of each blog being linked to the next once blogger was fixed. It made it much easier to hop.

Angela Patton May 18, 2011 at 4:56 am

The ladies did a super job giving me some ideas to use for my mascline cards. Sometimes they are harder. Thanks for the chance to win.

Priscilla May 18, 2011 at 12:12 pm

Wonderful blog hop. So filled with creative ideas and techniques from all the talented ladies. Some of my favorites included the use of mirrored cardstock and the stained glass sailboat. If I had to pick an absolute favorite it was Julie Warners. Breathtaking. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.

April May 18, 2011 at 4:45 pm

It is way too hard to pick a favorite. Everyone had super ideas! I loved them all. Great going ladies! This has really been a fun and inspiring hop!

Mary Munkel May 18, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Every card that I looked and read about was fantastic; all the designers did a fabulous job and I learned a lot of different techniques by taking part in the blog. I am in love with the old cars cards that were used by many of the designers, but if I had to pick one card that I really like it would be the motorcycle with the glittered fire. Great job, ladies!!!

Lin May 18, 2011 at 6:36 pm

I really enjoyed the blog-hop. So many fantastic ideas and techniques. I am totally sold on the classic cars stamp set. I’ll have to add that to my wish list. It was really neat to see each artist’s approach and use of this stamp set. They were all different, yet amazing. Perhaps I’ll get lucky and win the blog-hop and then I can get this stamp set.

Charlene LeBel May 18, 2011 at 7:48 pm

I can’t choose a favorite, all of them were just great and wonderful and beautiful. Thanks to all of you talented and innovative ladies. You give us great ideas. You are all so talented. Thank you, Charlene

Babs May 19, 2011 at 5:24 pm

I couldn’t begin to choose a favorite! So many amazing ideas. I feel so inspired! So many beautiful cards, so many interesting techniques to try. I will say that I am most interested in trying Shona’s “acetate painting” techinque. And then there’s Patti’s weaving technique…no wait she did the beautiful workshop card. And the motorcycle and the…. Too many to choose from . Thank you all for sharing your creativity and love of the art with all of us. I’ve got some blog bookmarks to set! And I can’t wait to see you in Somerset, NJ on Friday. Travel well!

Susannah May 20, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Wow, what a lot of time and energy everyone put into making the cards!
I really liked the red, white and black music card and the second card on The Write stuff-the coloring on the background is amazing!

NWFlamingo May 20, 2011 at 2:45 pm

These were great fun. I especially loved the stained glass sailboat cards and Julie’s roadster cards. Good work everybody!

Dianne Potter May 20, 2011 at 6:49 pm

I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this blog hop. I had never participated in a blog hop before and I really look forward to the next one. All of the cards were absolutely inspirational! What wonderful and exciting ideas. I have gotten to know “the California Ladies” from attending all of the different scrapbooking and stamping shows available in this area. I look forward to your daily emails and have come to think of you all as friends. Bless you and big hugs to all!
